ASL Wikipedia Project

This is the project for the technology needed to make SignWriting compatible with MediaWiki. It is also the repository of the encyclopaedic articles needed for a successful request for a Wikipedia in American Sign Language.

Wikimedia Labs

a place where magic happens

Wikimedia Labs has been gracious enough to supply a virtual server running the MediaWiki software with a custom extension called the SignWriting MediaWiki Plugin. The ASL Wikipedia Project is a work in progress.

SignWriting Encyclopedia Projects

Writing Encyclopedias in the Sign Languages of the World

The ASL Wikipedia Project is possible through cooperation with the Center for Sutton Movement Writing. As part of the SignWriting Encyclopedia Projects, this project has the full support of Valerie Sutton (script Inventor), Steve Slevinski (script encoding), and Adam Frost (writer, editor, and teacher).

Get Involved

SignWriting continues to grow and develop. More individuals and groups from around the world are becoming involved all of the time. The SignWriting List is an international community of users discussing all aspects of SignWriting.
